Martin Sjögren is a Swedish author of contemporary thrillers. His fiction draws on that world, where complex systems, rapid innovation and commercial pressures shape everyday life in ways that are not always visible. With a long-standing interest in space and technology, he writes stories grounded in what is already happening, or close to it.
Alongside his writing, he works as Head of PR at a global telecommunications company, after more than twenty years in tech communications.
Martin grew up in the coastal village of Viken in southern Sweden and now lives with his family outside Stockholm.
The Kármán Line
After a serious accident, star programmer Max Nyman has not worked for several months. He spends his days watching films and taking painkillers. His life takes a turn when he is recruited to Climacast, a much talked-about tech startup in the coastal village of Viken in southern Sweden.
Once there, Max soon realises that something is not right at the company. Tensions are building beneath the surface and his predecessor has disappeared without a trace. It also becomes clear that thousands of lives may be at risk if he fails to understand how the company’s AI works. The unease grows when Max learns that a boat has been found drifting in the Øresund, covered in blood.
The Kármán Line is a contemporary thriller where extreme weather and the emerging space economy form the backdrop to a story about greed, lies and paranoia. It is the first instalment in the Max Nyman series, where questions about modern technology and its consequences build a thought-provoking and at times unsettling picture of a future that already feels present.

“Sjögren has written a skilfully constructed thriller. It is fast-paced and well written, and the subject feels highly topical. The author’s solid knowledge of AI and modern technology is clear. The characters feel authentic, and the tension never lets up (...). A promising debut that leaves you wanting more.”
