Niklas Laninge is a psychologist, author and behavioural science expert whose work explores how psychology shapes the decisions we make and the behaviours we develop.
For more than a decade, he has written and spoken about decision-making, habits and behaviour change, with a particular interest in the gap between what people intend to do and what they actually do. His work spans everyday choices, digital behaviour, consumption and personal finance, always with a focus on making psychological research useful in real life.
Laninge’s writing combines research with concrete examples and practical insights, making complex ideas about human behaviour accessible to a broad audience. Alongside his writing, he works as a lecturer, speaker and media expert, and has helped organisations apply behavioural science to products, services and communication.
His work is ultimately concerned with a simple question: why do we behave the way we do, and how can we change?
Living Richer
The Psychology of Saving, Habits and Happiness
Money is about much more than making, saving and investing. Living Richer explores the psychology behind how we use money, and how our habits, emotions, social environment and everyday decisions shape our financial behaviour. Combining research with practical tools, the book shows how to build better financial habits without living frugally or becoming obsessed with the stock market.
The book is divided into three parts: how to create room for saving, how to take care of and grow your money, and how to spend it in ways that contribute to a richer life. Each chapter starts with a familiar financial challenge and explores the psychology behind it, drawing on research, real-life examples and practical solutions. Readers are given simple tools and exercises to help turn insight into lasting changes in behaviour.
But Living Richer is not simply about building wealth. It explores how money can create security and freedom, buy time and experiences, and contribute to a richer life.

The 6 Hidden Traps That Lead to Bad Decisions
Everyday decisions about consumption, media use, work, health and money are increasingly shaped by environments designed to influence our behaviour. What appears to be personal choice is often affected by systems that capture attention, trigger cognitive shortcuts and limit reflection.
The 6 Hidden Traps That Lead to Bad Decisions examines six recurring decision-making traps and the psychological mechanisms behind them. Drawing on behavioural economics, psychology and applied design research, the book shows how predictable biases and emotional responses influence our choices across different settings, from digital platforms and retail to public systems.
Written with designer Arvid Janson, the book combines psychological research with a design perspective on how our environments shape behaviour.
Arvid Janson holds an MSc in Engineering and a second degree in Marketing. He has founded several companies focused on behaviour change and currently runs All Day Every Day, where he works as a designer and product specialist developing intuitive digital products.
